Prior to using Sequence, we were always spending long hours manually calculating our invoices, which can be prone to errors. Admittedly, we have a fairly specialized pricing set up - minimums, complex usage data, tiered pricing, milestone-based billing. While Chargebee could fit other subscription models, our specific B2B setup introduced challenges it wasn’t designed to address out of the box. Since adopting Sequence, these manual input requirements have been largely reduced, mainly because we can model any pricing scenario in the Sequence billing module. As CTO, I also love that our engineering team doesn't need to get involved in the billing process anymore.

Topsort's finance team would spend the first week of every month wrestling with spreadsheets to calculate and bill for their complex, usage-based contracts with tiered percentage fees, milestones, and minimums. Chargebee supported Topsort’s initial billing needs, but as Topsort scaled and pricing models grew more complex, it became less aligned with their evolving requirements. They needed a solution to streamline invoicing for their custom contracts without extensive manual work. After a thorough evaluation, Francisco Larrain (CTO/Co-founder) and Jason Liao (Sales & RevOps Lead) chose Sequence to reduce time spent on billing runs, eliminate revenue slippage, and create a scalable billing workflow supporting $10m+ in ARR.

Topsort uses Sequence billing schedules to automate invoicing for their complex contracts which include a mix of platform fees (charged in advance), usage-based products (charged in arrears), free trials, milestones, usage minimums, and tiered volume rates. The flexibility of Sequence has helped automate the billing process, reducing invoicing mistakes and saving their finance team 4 days per month on month end close.
